REST AREA MODERNIZATION PROJECT
3Pikas was engaged by the Government of Yukon to assist with the reimagining and “modernizing” of rest areas near Whitehorse. The project focused on upgrading two rest areas along the Alaska Highway to include electric vehicle charging infrastructure. The improvements included modernized general and accessible parking, shelters and picnic areas, outhouses, street lighting, communications servicing infrastructure, and electric vehicle charging stations.
The scope of work included facilitating multiple technical workshops, preparing a general functional program plan, conducting a space-needs assessment, undertaking site visits, and preparing site plans. The resulting conceptual site plans incorporated design elements appropriate to the Yukon context. Various partners were provided with opportunities to review and comment on the concepts, enabling further refinement to the greatest level of detail.
